Every factory Porsche paint code is a 3–5 character alphanumeric identifier that uniquely names a color in Porsche's production records. If you know your Porsche's paint code, you can identify the exact factory color and source matching touch-up paint.
Porsche records the paint code in several places on every factory car. Here's where to look, ranked by reliability:
Open the driver's door and look on the B-pillar or door jamb for a white or silver factory sticker. The paint code is labeled FARBE-NR or COLOR, followed by a 3–5 character code.
On many 911s and mid-engined Porsches, check for a second sticker inside the front trunk (frunk), usually on the lid underside or near the spare-tire well.
Check the original Porsche window sticker (Monroney) and the order form in the service booklet. For older Porsches without surviving stickers, the order form is often the only definitive source.
If all stickers are missing, any Porsche dealer can pull the original build sheet from your VIN, which lists the factory paint code along with every other option originally ordered.
Porsche has used several paint code conventions over the decades: 3-digit numeric codes (e.g. 117 Acid Green) used in the 1960s through early 1980s; L-prefix codes (e.g. L80K Guards Red) from the late 1970s through the 2000s; M-prefix codes (e.g. M5X Miami Blue) for modern era and Paint to Sample colors; and 2-character codes (e.g. 22S Riviera Blue) used in certain order systems.
